Hey there, I’m Katie!
I believe in living a brave life. I believe in offering up our gifts and talents, no matter how big or small, for God’s glory. And I’m inspired by women who seek to live authentic and vulnerable lives.
In my writing and speaking, I encourage women to fight fear, to step scared and to live brave. Always and only for His glory.
I’m in my second official year of blogging and beyond showing up here, you can find my work as a regular contributor for Club 31 Women and Mothers of Daughters. I’ve also been featured a couple times at The Huffington Post and written for (in)courage, amongst other spots around the web.
My goal here is to encourage you to choose brave in your life while I journey to do the same in my own – in those monstrous, gut wrenching decisions, as well as the daily decisions that almost go unnoticed but are every bit as important (maybe more?) in the end. I write because I have been blessed by so many honest and life-giving women in my life, women who have mentored me through various seasons and stages and in return I feel compelled to do the same – to speak life-giving truth and honest hope to the women God places in my path.
Ultimately, I do this for an audience of One. Honestly, sometimes brave scares me. It calls out my nerves, my doubts and my fears. But it causes me to reach for Christ like never before. I don’t walk in this calling because I am that brave, I walk because I know that He is that strong. I’d love for you to walk with me.
If you are new here, new to choosing brave, you might start here.
If you need a good laugh, you might enjoy reading about how I don’t make pie or how I once introduced myself to my husband’s co-worker. I’m still reeling from that one!
I typically post two to three times a week. To make sure you don’t miss any posts you can subscribe by e-mail using the form on the sidebar. It’s the best way to keep up with what is happening here.
A little more about me.
I’ve been married almost 15 years to the basketball player I rooted for as a high school cheerleader. Yep, it really does happen. I have a degree in Business Administration from Washington State University but my business (and busyness!) is mostly at home. My husband and I have four kids who I get to teach at home and we have carved out a lovely little homestead on a small chunk of land in the state of Washington. We love exploring the Pacific Northwest on camping trips throughout the summer and during the winter you’ll find us in our backyard on our favorite sledding hill.
I love to read and make time for it nearly every day. I have a decent sense of adventure, enjoy traveling, love surprises and like to try new things.
I’ve always enjoyed writing, although I put the idea of making time for it on the shelf during those crazy, sleep deprived years of parenting toddlers. I blinked and those days are pretty much gone.
Somewhere between no longer funding the Huggies Corporation and getting a decent amount of uninterrupted sleep each night my dream of and time for writing has been re-kindled. And through a series of events, I felt God showing me that now is the time.
I don’t ever want to pretend I’ve got it all figured out, but I want to engage with you as each day I try my best. Try my best to follow His plan for my life. Try to do my best with what He has given me. And, bravely, get up and try again the next day when I mess it all up.
And, even more, I’d love it if you would try along with me.
If you are looking for a bit more of my personal story, I posted about that over here. Warning: It’s not an easy read. Life doesn’t always turn out like the fairytales. But God is always good.
